The amount of muscle tissue in your body will affect how fast your body can burn calories. Lean muscle burns calories, even when you’re not doing anything. Lean muscle burns fat just to exist. The more lean muscle you have, the more calories you will burn.
In order to keep the fat-burning fire “hot”, you need to maintain and/or build lean muscle tissue. As we grow up into adults, we tend to lose muscle tissue at a rate of 1/2 pound per year. Less muscle mass equals weight gain as our metabolism will slow down to conserve energy.
