Antioxidants are substances that have the natural ability to counter the damage occurring naturally during physiological activities. They are in the form of nutrients and enzymes that engage in precluding the progress of chronic illnesses such as cancer, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, heart problems, rheumatoid arthritis, and cataracts. They help fight the oxidative stress caused by free radicals which are chemically-active molecular fragments containing a deficient number of electrons.
Antioxidants can be derived from solid foods including vegetables and fruits. In a more recent study, Scientists suggested that drinking fresh juice extracted from fruits and raw vegetables can be more effective in supplying antioxidants to our body. Below are just few of the several ways of having nutritive drinks or juices at home:
1.Carrot with apple and egg yolk juice
Carrots are rich in beta-carotene which helps fight cancers and vision-related illnesses. Apples contain the phyto antioxidants which are effective in curing digestive cancers and cardiovascular diseases. They are also good in preventing skin wrinkles. On the other hand, the carotenoid (zeaxanthin and lutein) content in egg yolks may prevent macular degeneration.
How to prepare:
Cut in dices 1 carrot and half of an apple. Along with 1 cup of natural soy milk (unsweetened and unflavored), 1 egg yolk (raw), 1 tablespoon of honey, and 3-9 grams of ginseng (liquid or granulated), mix in a blender.
2.Honey and Bee Pollen drink
Bee pollen has bioflavonoid rutin which strengthens capillaries and arteries and helps in circulation.
How to prepare:
Mix the following ingredients in a tall glass: 1 tablespoon honey, 1 heaped teaspoon bee pollen powder, and 1 cup warm water. Add ginseng extract for an energy booster.
Vegetables like cucumber, celery, radish, and turmeric are also great in fighting the free radicals in our body. They are also tasteful when extracted as juice with the use of a juicer and blender. Instead of honey, bananas can be a good alternative.
