Apple unveils new MacBook Pro lineup

As rumored, Apple today released its new lineup of MacBook Pro notebook computers. Early leaks revealed the specs of all the new models at least a day ahead of launch, and those leaks proved quite accurate. Apple’s updated MacBook Pro laptops now boast Intel’s new Sandy Bridge processors, improved cameras capable of HD video chat, and a speedy new interface with a cool-sounding name: Thunderbolt.

Perhaps the highlight of the new MacBook Pro line (especially for professional users) is the introduction of the new Thunderbolt I/O standard. “The new MacBook Pro brings next generation dual and quad Core processors, high performance graphics, Thunderbolt technology and FaceTime HD to the great design loved by our pro customers,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

“Thunderbolt is a revolutionary new I/O technology that delivers an amazing 10Gbps and can support every important I/O standard which is ideal for the new MacBook Pro,” he continued. (CNET has more details on Thunderbolt here.)

The new FaceTime HD camera.

The new MacBook Pro also now includes a built-in FaceTime HD camera enabling high-definition video calls. The new FaceTime HD camera gives you three times the resolution of the previous camera. With Apple’s FaceTime video calling software, the new camera allows high definition video calls between all new MacBook Pro models and supports standard resolution calls with other Intel-based Macs, iPhone 4 and the current generation iPod touch.

Included Software

The MacBook Pro will come installed with the Snow Leopard OS, iTunes, TimeMachine, Quick Look, Spaces, Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD player, PhotoBooth, Front Row and XCode.

iLife comes with iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, and GarageBand.
