Lastly, there is the option for skilled climbers to go up a face without ropes or harness, electing to use their shoes, skills, and chalk to get them up safely and efficiently. This method is known as “bouldering”, and represents a higher skill level that puts the skills of the athlete directly against the laws of gravity and the immediacy of their situation.
