You may have often heard a statement about computer desks: computers may change but the desk remains the same. A computer desk offers a wide range of advantages but it can also be connected to many spinal cord related problems. Off course, you sit on a chair not on a computer desk but a chair gets aligned according to the computer desk. The way you sit and work determines how effectively your body will fight stress induced by sitting for endless hours in front of a computer.
It is a myth that using laptop doesn’t gift you problems. Consider this: though it is called a laptop, how many of us use it keeping it on our laps? No doubt we use it that way some times, but most of the times we use it as a desktop; it’s only that the laptop moves from one connection to another. Importance of body posture is one thing which is underrated by many of us with our I pump iron so it won’t affect me, kind of an attitude.
Considering the combination of stress (personal and job related) and long working hours spent near a computer (business purpose along with social networking), today’s generation has serious health issues even before they celebrate 3 decades of their arrival on the earth. Some tips to get away with such problems are discussed below
Utilization of wrist rests is advisable. Your wrists and you hands should be straight.
While sitting at a computer desk, adjust the seat height in a way wherein your feet touch the ground in entirety.
Your shoulders should be relaxed.
Sit as straight as possible.
Sit at least at an arm’s length or 1 foot away from the computer screen.
Wearing anti glare glasses (if you wear spectacles) is advised.
Take small breaks during your stay near the computer.
Try doing stretching exercises at least once a day.
Even if you don’t have any problems today, try adapting to a healthy posture when you sit near a computer. Always remember that you cannot avoid using computers, but you can avoid additional stress induced by improper seating postures often dubbed as a sign of a careless attitude.
