If you are having difficulty becoming pregnant, there can be a number of reasons why this could be the case. Even a healthy couple with no underlying problems can take between 12-18 months of trying before conception.
Conceiving is a delicate process and eating the right kind of foods can certainly increase your chances of a happy outcome. However, it is no good doing this if you are still eating foods which could be hindering your chances of conception. Below are some foods which you should avoid if you are having difficulty becoming pregnant.
Refined Carbohydrates and Sugar
These two foods are generally thought to be unhealthy and are particularly bad if you are trying to become pregnant. There is evidence to suggest that women who eat high levels of refined sugars can suffer from fertility problems. The reason is thought to be that when we eat refined carbohydrates and sugar, this causes our glucose levels to rise, creating the release of insulin into the bloodstream. When this happens repeatedly, this can eventually lead to a condition known as insulin resistance which, in turn, can lead to hormonal imbalances.
Trans fats are industrially created fats which were made to extend the shelf life of many different goods, particularly fried fast foods, chips, cakes and biscuits. You need to check food labels, as they may not be called “trans fats” on the label but could show as “partially hydrogenated vegetable oil” or “shortening”. One large scale health study showed that women who ate more trans fats had more chance of being infertile. There is evidence to suggest that if you are having difficulty becoming pregnant, you should avoid trans fats as they can contribute to insulin resistance and cause inflammation. They are also bad for men too, causing the cell membrane less flexible decreasing the sperm’s ability to penetrate the egg.
Although soy can be a healthy inclusion for men and women who are not trying to have a family, there is evidence to suggest that too much soy can decrease fertility in both men and women. Indeed, sperm samples taken from men who ate soy indicated poor sperm motility and lowered sperm counts. Soy can affect hormonal levels in women and so is best avoided if you are having difficulty becoming pregnant.
Despite researching and putting into practice tips on how to become pregnant quickly, naturally, some couples still do not conceive after several months. Rather than leaving matters completely to chance, it makes sense to implement a tried and tested method which is guaranteed to work.
