Superfoods are foods that are packed with a whole lot of healthy properties that are good for the body. Adding them to your diet on a regular basis will surely give you a lot of benefits, such as boosting your immunity, weight loss, and even fighting certain diseases. These foods are usually loaded with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and plenty of antioxidants. Included in this list of foods is the blueberry.
Blueberries are known to have high ORAC value. ORAC is a rating system that determines how many antioxidants a food contains. Blueberries join the list of the top ORAC graders. Studies show that this berry can actually help in any weight loss program. First, this fruit is low in calories. That means you have lesser calories to burn and no fat to store. However, reports also say that this berry can actually cause diabetes. This is true, but not when you eat the fruit alone. This superfood when added with preservatives, creams, sugars, and eaten together with a lot of carbohydrates can indeed lead to diabetes or worsen it.
Next, blueberries are low in sugar and high in fiber. We all know how important fiber consumption is in maintaining a healthy digestive system. Fiber works as a broom, sweeping up waste deposits, toxins, and even fats accumulated in the colon. When these are eliminated from the body, a whole lot of weight is lost. The body is cleansed daily as well. Antioxidants in the fruit play an important role in reducing tummy fat as they help eliminate fats too. Antioxidants fight free radicals that cause damage to the cells, thus resulting to a cancer-free, healthy tummy and body as a whole.
This fruit is indeed a superfood and can be eaten without the fear of getting fat. Be warned however, that whatever you add to them can lead to diabetes and other health concerns. Adding blueberries to ice cream or making a sweet dessert out of blueberries and sweet milk and cream will only block you from your healthy goals.
