Have Chronic Acne? Think Outside of the Box

Sometimes a person with acne, who has had it for a long time, will start to develop a feeling of hopelessness. They think that there is just something wrong with their skin in a fundamental way. It is just their destiny to have acne for a long time.

While this may be true, before jumping to any kind of a lifelong conclusion like that, one should try to think a little bit more outside of the box.

What follows is a few simple poignant things to think about that may give you an idea how to turn your acne problem inside out.

Wash your face! — Ask yourself how many times a day do you wash your face? Some people get so lost in the problem that they operate under the illusion that they’re actually doing everything they can. If you have acne and you don’t wash your face several times a day, then it’s nobody’s fault but your own. Even if you think the problem is deeper than that (and I’m not saying you’re wrong), you need to apply the basics day in and day out.
Try a new treatment! — Mix things up. Obviously something’s not working, so why don’t you try some new cream or gel and see what happens? Sometimes the only way to break new ground is to wildly experiment with things and “see what sticks”.
See a dermatologist! — A long-standing history of acne is a very reasonable reason to make an appointment with a dermatologist (aka skin doctor). He or she may be actually able to prescribe you a stronger drug that could attack your problem at a deeper level than anything you can get over the counter. If you haven’t tried this option in a long time, then you really owe it to yourself to go talk with a doctor.

When a problem is longstanding, we often start to think that “that’s just the way things are”. However, this is rarely the true case. A better use of our energy, time, and even money would be to mix things up and try implementing some new solutions.

I know this is basic common sense, but all of us need to be reminded about it in different areas of our life. We all get stagnant sometimes.
