Jollibee: Made by Filipinos, for Filipinos

Jollibee has become a name that every Filipino all over the world had come to love and respect. As far as we can remember, Jollibee provides us with the most delectable fast-food foods, but this was not before shifting their business from an ice cream parlor to selling what they sell right now.

Jollibee started as an ice cream parlor at Cubao in 1975 with Jolibe as the original name at start which was founded by a man named Tony Tan Caktiong. Sometime in 1978, Tony Tan Caktiong and his brothers and sisters, being partners, engaged the services of a management consultant in the person of Manuel C. Lumba. Lumba, now Caktiong’s personal consultant, shifted the business focus from ice cream to hamburgers, after his studies showed that a much larger market was waiting to be exploited.

And sure enough, their hamburgers became a hit for a lot of Filipinos. After this success, Lumba next reformed the name Jolibe to Jolly Bee and made the two words form a single name Jollibee. Then Lumba next created the product name “Yumburger” for their burgers as well as the name “Chickenjoy” for their deep fried chickens. Visit a Jollibee philippine website

Lumba also formulated a long-term marketing strategy, listing up a number of consumer promotions and traffic building schemes. Tony Tan stressed that developing internal strengths was critical.

Another expansion that they did on that time was to re-design their stores, their services transformed into a full self-service, and added drive-thrus on their store operations.

Jollibee have gotten so big that they have decided on incorporating some expansions and acquisitions on other fast-food restaurants. On 2000, Jollibee acquired Chowking, allowing Jollibee to be part of the oriental quick service restaurant segment.

Similarly, Jollibee also acquired Red Ribbon Bakeshop on 2005, another popular fast-food restaurant in the Philippines. In 2006, Jollibee acquired the Délifrance which further expanded its penetration in the food service industry particularly in the French cafe-bakery, a growing segment of the Philippine food market. Jollibee is now recognized as the biggest and the grandest fast-food restaurant in the Philippines that offers the best collection of fast-food menus all over the Philippines, and in some parts of the globe where Filipinos are served a piece of home.
