Keeping You and Your Car Winter Safe

No matter how severe your winter is if there is any change in the season at all then you need to prepare your vehicle for this. Naturally, this is of even more importance if one has a snowy climate to contend with.

Ideally you want to do your winter car preparation in late fall. One never knows when that first snowfall is going to hit and you don’t want to be caught unprepared.

One of the dangers during the winter is being stuck in snow. You may want to carry a set of chains, a small shovel and perhaps some sand. These are all useful items to help get your out of the snow bank.

There are many precarious situations that can occur during the winter driving time. As we just mentioned there is the possibility of getting stuck in snow. Then the accident rates are higher during this month and in some places, one could get caught up in traffic for two to three hours. Then there is always the risk of the car breaking down, or not starting because it’s too cold. You must be prepared at all times for these scenarios.

You need to have an emergency kit in these cases. Some individuals will pack a small storage box that can be left in the car. It should contain a change of warm clothing for those who use the car on a regular basis. Often when traveling in the car people tend to dress fairly light. Perhaps not bothering with the hats, gloves and boots. If you are stranded somewhere these items are imperative for you. Then you should have some water, and perhaps some non-perishable snacks. Some type of lighting is important as well. A flashlight and extra batteries is a must. Others will also keep a candle with a safe holder for it as well. It’s surprising just how much heat these will generate in a small car.

A heavy blanket is another must. With these items, you should be able to remain somewhat comfortable until help arrives.

Make sure that all the necessary car parts are in good working order a such as your heater. Your breaks must be in perfect shape, and make sure you have a good supply of windshield wiper fluid.

Another very important thing to keep in mind as well is be sure you have a full tank of gas at all times. You never know when you may get delayed and have to remain in your vehicle. In addition to this, be sure to carry your cell phone with you.
