Recently the Jaguar E-Type, which is believed as the greatest ever made, has celebrated its 50th anniversary in Silverstone Classic. In the event, nearly 90 cars are registered to Historic Sports Car Club organizers in all versions to mark the half century E-Type.
The legendary Jaguar E-Type is manufactured by Jaguar only in the period between 1961 and 1975. When it was first launched in 1961 Geneva Auto Show, the Jaguar stunned the automotive industry for its elegant and timeless design and iconic look. Besides, Jaguar features high performance and competitive price which mark the car as an icon in the 1960s motoring. During 14 years lifespan remaining in the market, Jaguar achieved great success when selling out over seventy thousand E-Types units. In 1961, the car cost £2,256 and around £38,000 nowadays.
The Managing Director Jaguar Cars, Mike O’Driscoll, once said, “Half a century of progress has not diminished the significance of the E-Type”. Thanks to being most enduring and iconic symbol of Jaguar, it has been voted at number one on the list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s by Sports Car International magazine.
The Jaguar E-Type was a real sensation when it was unveiled at the Geneva motor show in 1961. Over time, it is still known as the finest car in automotive world.
The car was powered with straight-six 3.8-liter engine producing 265bhp and 260 lb-ft of torque which enable the car to reach a speed of 150 mph.
The British sports car was later referred as number one car by Jeremy Clarkson – the journalist on motoring.
Footballer George Best also owns one Jaguar E-Type.
Other celebration events include Goodwood’s Revival, Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and Goodwood’s Festival of Speed
The 50th celebration in Silverstone Classic features more than 90 most iconic and elegant sports cars of all time.
The legendary Jaguar E-Type also earns the title of the fastest car of its time.
Even the Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari called the E-Type “the most beautiful car in the world”.
The 50th celebration is the first official event of Jaguar after the first debut of the car in the 1961 Geneva Motor Show.
In March, the legendary is placed at the first position in list of “100 Most Beautiful Cars of All Time”
