Newquay – Surfing, the Beach and Good Times!

Newquay is a popular holiday destination amongst thousands in the summer months, but what is all the excitement about? Without a doubt one of the main reasons people visit is to surf. However, there are many other things that Newquay has to offer, with a number of different water sports available, and a town that has a lot to offer!

Newquay is the place to go if you are looking for a surfing holiday. It has 10 long sandy beaches that provide the perfect setting for surfing, body-boarding or swimming, as well as just relaxation! Whilst Fistral Beach is the main beach that everyone flocks to, there are many other quieter beaches that all have something to offer.

Great Western Beach is great for learning to surf at. When the tide is out, this beach is huge, providing a large area for surfers to accommodate. It is also home to Reef Surf School, where there are a number of instructors providing great surf instruction, focusing on both beginners and those that have surfed before. They also give great surfing tips as to where your possibly going wrong, and how to improve. This ensures that you can make the most of your time at sea, enjoying the Newquay surf!

Newquay does cater for other sports besides surfing. As there are good size waves rolling into the beach, there is the opportunity to take part in some wind surfing, kite surfing, and even some kayaking when the waves aren’t too large! The annual Boardmasters festival is held at Fistral Beach each year which brings surfers and skaters together, showcasing their talent! There are also volleyball courts on several of the beaches, meaning that it is almost guaranteed that there will be something for you to enjoy.

Newquay also has a very nice town. There are many small locally run shops that provide great opportunity to purchase an array of souvenirs to take home as a memento of your trip. As Newquay is considered as the centre of the UK’s surf industry, there are also a large number of surf shops, meaning that you can create yourself a whole new surfer image! These shops are also great for hiring surfboards and wetsuits should you not have your own.

There are also a number of great places to eat along the high-street, ranging from Indian and Chinese cuisine, to the more unusual Greek and Mexican cuisine. There are also a variety of both restaurants and takeaways. Nevertheless, there will be something there that will suit your taste, even if its Indian take away on the beach that your after!

Newquay is a great place that has the ability of creating many memories between both friends and family. It makes for a good holiday with the number of activities available, so you wont find yourself bored! It is however the sort of place that you will find yourself wanting to go back to in the future, so once you’ve been there once, you may find yourself returning!
