The truth is that there are calories in wine. Any product you consume has calories unless it is made of water or man-made chemicals. That is just how the world was designed and cannot be avoided. Another truth is that you simply cannot survive without calories. Contrary to popular music and other expressions, you certainly cannot survive on love alone.
So, considering you need calories to survive, you can view it as a good thing that there are calories in wine, at least that is a perspective option. However, for those who want to lose a few extra pounds, that there are calories in wine may not be such a good thing. That is when the actual number of calories in wine may need to be considered before enjoying your favorite selection.
Generally, there are about sixty to eighty calories in the average glass of wine. Depending on the glass size, there are around five to six glasses of wine in most regular bottles. However, some red wine glasses are large enough to hold nearly a complete bottle of wine so the glass size is, definitely, something to take into consideration when it comes to “portion sizes.” With that in mind, it can be computed that a typical bottle of the sweeter red and white wines will have around three to five hundred calories each. Although that may seem like a lot for a beverage, it may be more minimal after comparing the caloric level of wine to some of the foods we eat.
A hamburger, for instance, may have up to 1,000 calories. Add cheese and bacon and the caloric intake will increase even greater, also providing nearly as much fat as your body needs in an entire month. Fortunately, wine does not have a lot of fat. In fact, it typically has no fat.
Keep in mind, though, there wine does have sugar and some carbohydrates but still a minimal number of carbs compared to a typical slice of regular bread. If you enjoy a good glass of wine, consider it as a better source of calories as compared to some of the other foods you may eat as well as a comparable fuel source.
Wine also provides an overall feeling of wellness it gives the brain and digestive system. This is, certainly, an additional benefit of wine that cannot be overlooked when looking at wine’s calories. This leads to the consideration that, despite the number of calories in wine, it may actually provide some additional health benefits. This is to suggest that wine may be a positive consideration in someone’s diet. Generally, wines tend to help with digestion, enhance certain foods and even provide antioxidants and other minerals to result in wine’s calories really being more of a secondary factor. As you see, an effective weight loss diet can still include an occasional glass of wine!
