If you want to become a full time online writer, articles are one of the best ways to do it. For starters they are quick and easy to do for the most part, you can specialise in certain subjects, and you can also take on as many or as little as you like.
But you have to have a plan.
Getting started is the first step. Work on finding that first article job and get used to the process of finding work and completing it for a client. The first time is always a bit scary, but once you have gone through it you will know what to expect in future instances.
Next, you have to think about getting regular article jobs. You won’t be able to build up a full time income unless you are writing articles on a regular basis. But remember that you don’t have to do this overnight. Assuming you currently have a full time job, you will need to find the time to write around your current hours of work. You might even need to do what I did and work in the evenings for a while as you build up your client base.
You should also try to write and sell articles for yourself as well as writing for other people. There are websites around that you can upload your articles onto for free, and charge a fee to anyone who wants to buy them. This is a good stream of income to add to the money you will get from your writing clients.
Finally think about promoting yourself! It’s amazing how many writers don’t do this. Using social media networks is a good start. You don’t need to use all of them – perhaps two or three would suffice. And if you have a writing blog you can put your URL on your profile to get more traffic to that blog.
Some writers only think of selling articles in terms of going out and finding clients who need articles written. That is perfectly fine, but you should also think about drawing clients to you. I have written for lots of people who have found me, either through my website or my blog. It works. I have also used social media sites to connect with potential clients.
In the end you need to be pro-active to get more and more writing jobs to sell more articles online. If you are, you will notice a gradual increase in your sales.
