The Importance of a Healthy Colon

Currently I am a student with the Clayton College of Natural Health studying to be a master herbalist.Through my studies and independent research I have come across much information about the importance of Colon Health.

What you ingest, how that food is processed and utilized is important to an individuals well being and vitality. Let me make this easier to understand. Think about a baby. When they eat; within a short period of time like 15 minutes they will have a bowel movement. This is standard procedure in a health digestive system. As we get older we choose to ingest foods that are processed, loaded with chemicals and general devoid of nutrients.

As mastication of food occurs in the mouth, the digestive process begins. Food then passes to the gut where it is further digested from the hydrochloric acid produced in the stomach. Next the food proceeds to the intestines where the nutrients are further utilized before elimination occurs. Now bear in mind the food products we eat are full of toxins.

It is the job of the Large Intestine to release toxins. If the Large Intestine becomes sluggish it is unable to release these toxins. Those toxins then build up in the body and cause all sorts of nasty problems such as: Lack of energy, Gas, Bloating, Weight gain, and a myriad of other issues.

Prolonged digestive intestinal and colon problems can result in further damages like I.B.S. or (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), and colon cancer. Eating less processed foods and more locally grown and organically grown fruits and vegetables is a good place to start to achieving a health colon. A good Colon cleanse would be the next step towards a healthier colon. There are a couple of ways this can be accomplished.

There are many orally administered colon cleansing products in the marketplace. An alternative to this would be Colon Hydrotherapy. Research both of these methods and see which suits you best. Another suggestion is adding digestive enzymes and probiotics to your diet. These may help things move along.

In conclusion, making a concerted effort to rethink the how you eat is very important to ones life force. From one end to the other! Literally!
