When I had my 18th birthday, my mom and dad gave me my very first expensive phone. Why did I say it’s expensive? Well, because that time people are craving to have that phone especially when it first hit the market. News and market sales will prove this claim, I was very happy then. I was so thankful and felt so blessed for having that stuff.
Aside from being expensive and trendy, the phone got lots of interesting and fabulous features. For the first time, I can use my phone to search the net and even check my Facebook and other social media accounts. I was so amazed because I never imagine that I can be updated with all the events and even rumors without using and logging in in my PC. Also, I can do Skype and YM on that latest phone, such an amazing discovery that I never thought will happen. Now, visiting those search engines and other sites is just a click away. Very handy!
I even have an experience in that phone wherein my friends and I went for a trip in a very far and unfamiliar place. Of course, since we do not know the place, we purchase a map that will guide us on our way there. Suddenly we realize that we lost the map and felt so helpless, we even thought of going back and just cancel the trip. However, my phone saved the day. Out of the blue, it rang (SMS from my mom to remind me to take good care of myself) and I remember having a locator in that phone. I clicked on the application and presto! We have the map that told us where we were that time. We were happy and my friends were all thankful for the big help that I did for the group. I’m was really happy for having the phone.
Aside from these precious experiences, the phone was an ‘unlocked phone’. At first I am asking myself what is that term all about. My dad told me to take good care of the phone for it was unlocked already, that makes it more different with other phones. Of course my curiosity tickled my mind, I asked my dad what is that all about, then he explained to me briefly what and why he buy unlocked cell phone.
My dad said, “Some cell phones are designed to use a Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card, or microchip that stores subscriber data. The SIM card is issued by a carrier and provides cell service by activating any phone into which it is inserted. A locked phone, however, will only recognize a SIM card from a particular carrier. If the cell phone is unlocked, it will recognize a SIM card from any carrier. The “lock” is a software setting that keeps the cell phone “loyal” to one carrier.”
And that made me realized how important the phone was. It will give you the freedom to choose whatever network you want to have for communication. But unfortunately, I lost the phone and I am so depressed when that happened. Of course my mom and dad were also sad with what happened but they looked more on my safety rather than me losing that ‘expensive’ and ‘trendy’ phone. They told me not to worry with the phone because it can be replaced by another one, the important thing was me being safe and not harmed by those thieves.
I’m still thinking of that phone, but I just told myself to move on because maybe those people don’t have anything to eat or they had a great need that time that’s why they committed such act, and I just pray for them for the Lord to guide them. I’m now positive and not anymore depressed but the next time I will avail another phone, I will again buy unlocked phone but the more ordinary one, for safety purposes.
