Choosing a windsurfing vacation is a great idea because the thrill of this outdoor sport simply blows the stress of modern living completely out of your mind and body!
This kind of holiday is ideal for young teenagers but is equally excellent as a whole family activity vacation. Groups of friends also often come and learn windsurfing or kitesurfing here in Fethiye.
Both activities are favourite past times here at Calis beach in Fethiye. Tuition is available from beginner to advanced level from internationally recognized instructors. On the eastern shores of Sovalye island even the absolute beginner can taste the magic of sea while on the western shores, the more experienced will get the thrill of large waves rolling in from the open sea.
The surf center is located on Calis beach which is on the northern side of Fethiye. Winds are fairly reliable and are usually low in the morning ( 5 – 10 knots ) and rising in the afternoon ( 10 – 20 knots ). This is great because it means you get choose your time according to your experience. Some days windspeed can reach the 20 – 40 knots region but this is not often. When this happens the real pros come out to play and kite-surfing really takes to the air!

3 hour beginners course. 50 Euros.
Involves 1.5 hours training in the evening using a land based simulator.
This is followed the next morning by in the water training of another 1.5 hours.
After this, you are ready to continue by yourself by renting the boards at a discount rate.
The rate is: 10 Euro per hour.
If you are in a group or as a family and want to master the sport then I would recommend hiring a board for a week at the cost of 210 Euro and share the board.
Next to the Surf Center is Surf Cafe which serves up great traditional Turkish food as well as cold drinks including Turkey’s “Golden Nectar” – Efes Pilsner! This is such a great place to chill out after a windsurfing or kitesurfing session. Suitable for the whole family, this shaded friendly atmosphere makes you feel like you want to stay for the whole summer!
The air in South West Turkey is fresh, clean and healthy. This is due to the abundance of pine forests that grow on the mountain slopes which surround Fethiye. Although the town is now a modern tourist center with excellent shopping and entertainment facilities, it still keeps its picturesque charm and beauty.
As well as windsurfing you can also enjoy a host of other activities. There are many scuba diving companies who will train you to reach the PADI, SSI and CMAS diving instruction certifications. Trekking in the mountains is another favorite holiday activity and so is horse riding and quad bike safaris.
For the even more adventurous there is paragliding from the top of Mount Babadag in Oludeniz which ends with a graceful landing near the famous blue lagoon of Olu Deniz.
For a more tranquil day it is worth taking a 12 island tour and enjoy the magnificent turquoise bays that abound is this region.
